On a lighter note here are some interesting facts about websites (and other nonsense):
- Tim Berners-Lee, an English software consultant widely acknowledged as the inventor of the web, was working at CERN in Switzerland in 1980 and created a computer program he called Enquire. This was designed for his personal use. He lost that code when he left CERN. Was this the first version of the World Wide Web?
- Early names for the Web were: "Information Mesh", "Mine of Information" and "The Information Mine" (but Berners-Lee thought the acronym, TIM, was too egocentric!).
- 79% of users always scan; only 16% read word-by-word.
- Reading from computer screens is 25% slower than from paper.
- Web content should be 50% the size of its paper equivalent.
